Ontario Blog Squad Meetup: Commence!

For the last month-and-a-half, I’ve been happily occupied with planning the very first Ontario Blog Squad meetup. What is the Ontario Blog Squad, you may ask? It was an idea developed by the eight ladies seen below–

Liz, Wendy, Christa, Mel, Jen, Jackie, Nicole and Angel (me!)

–that grew into a wonderful afternoon of bookish fun with book bloggers across Ontario! Between hundreds (literally!) of emails, 5+ hours of chats and pages and pages of Twitter conversations, we planned out a meetup that I’m overjoyed to say was a rousing success.

Of course, I can’t go any further without sending lots of love over to the hardworking publishers who so kindly agreed to sponsor our meetup with books and swag.

Shannon at Harper Collins Canada is my new hero (Yes those are handwritten notes on all the books!)

Scholastic Canada furnished us with finished copies of iBoy, First Day on Earth, The Scorpio Races and Cleopatra's Moon!

Hachette Canada came through with tons of 2012 titles, including Jackson Pearce's Purity and Kody Keplinger's Midsummer Nightmare.

Random House sent over 37 bags of books, mugs, bookmarks and pens!

Penguin Canada sent over eight highly-anticipated ARCs, bookmarks and Razorbill t-shirts!

And Simon & Schuster took our breaths away with 40 copies of Fever!

The Blog Squad girls had an amazing time setting up all the gift bags for the attendees–believe you me, we were just as starry-eyed to be packing them as you were to receive them! My own haul:

Our afternoon at the Duke of York was, in a word, splendid. Everything went off without a hitch, and we even had more prizes to give away than we thought. Have some more photos!

That woman in the white, striped shirt? That’s Lindsey from Random House! It was so lovely to meet her and chat about books, even for only a minute or so. We were also lucky enough to have a Kobo Touch to give away to one blogger.

Thank you to the wonderful Canadian publishing houses who went out of their way to give everyone a little pre-Christmas treat, the bloggers who took time out of their busy schedules to attend and of course, the seven ladies I worked with on this meetup!

All in all, it was one of the best Saturday afternoons I’ve ever had, and I cannot WAIT for the next meetup! I hope you all had as much fun as I did. Don’t forget to check out the Ontario Blog Squad page for updates, contests and details on future meetups!
