Anticipation

Anticipation: Mysterious Circumstances

Every Monday, I’ll be posting about books that I’m looking forward to reading. Most will probably be YA fiction, though some romance novels and general fiction will pop up every now and then.

This week, I’m featuring novels whose protagonists find themselves in strange places and even stranger situations. Whether it’s a dystopian society where touch is forbidden to a kingdom ruled by a caste system, each story promises excitement and irresistible danger.

When sixteen-year-old Faye arrives at Holbrook Academy, she doesn’t expect to find herself exactly where she needs to be. After years of strange waking visions and nightmares, her only comfort the bones of dead animals, Faye is afraid she’s going crazy. Fast.

But her first night at Holbrook, she feels strangely connected to the school and the island it sits on, like she’s come home. She’s even made her first real friends, but odd things keep happening to them. Every morning they wake on the floors of their dorm rooms with their hands stained red.

Faye knows she’s the reason, but what does it all mean? The handsome Kel tries to help her unravel the mystery, but Faye is certain she can’t trust him; in fact, he may be trying to kill her—and the rest of the world too.

Rich, compelling writing will keep the pages turning in this riveting and tautly told psychological thriller.

Miranda has lived on Whym Island since the death of her parents. She has taken comfort in its seclusion and in the folklore that claims a mysterious sea witch controls the fate of all on the island and its surrounding waters. It’s easier to believe things are out of her control.

But when a terrible boating accident takes the lives of several of her friends, Miranda is rescued by a mysterious boy that haunts her dreams. As the guilt of the accident consumes her, she finds refuge in her late night swims. Until she meets Christian, a boy who seems so familiar, but won’t tell her where he is from and why they can only meet at the beach. As Miranda falls for Christian and begins to put the accident behind her, she discovers that there are secrets that Christian is keeping to protect her that may only end up bringing her nothing but harm.

Cover-wise, Harbinger is definitely the most mysterious and I love the tarot card look.

What books are you anticipating?

  1. I’m really looking forward to all those books as well, specifically A Beautiful Evil since I LOVED Darkness Becomes Her. Oh, and I agree, the cover for Harbinger is definitely the most mysterious and intriguing out of the four.
